Utilization of wet corn gluten feed in substitution to corn and cottonseed meal in feed lot diets

A growing trial was conducted to evaluate the wet corn gluten feed on the performance of steers. In the trial, 32 steers (16 of the Caracu breed and 16 of the Nelore breed) were blocked by weight and breed (2 steers/pen). The animals were randomly alloted to one of two treatments: A - sorghum silage + wet com gluten feed, B. sorghum silage + concentrate. The concentrate composed of cracked corn and cottonseed meal was balanced for the same level of crude protein of the wet corn gluten feed. The animals fed concentrate presented higher (P <0.05) dry matter intake (96.08 g/kg BW0.75) than animals fed wet corn gluten feed (91.27 g/kg BW0.75). The liveweight gain (0.940 and 0.930 kg/a/d) and feed conversion (9.71 and 9.77 kg DM/Kg LWG) for the treatments A and B, were not affected by the supplements. In the conditions of the trial, the wet corn gluten feed resulted in a liveweight gain and feed conversion, similar to the concentrate balanced for the same level of crude protein.Downloads
