Abstract

This research deals with the determination of the floral origin of honeys produced by Apis mellifera L., in the region of the Chapada do Araripe, municipality of Santana do Cariri, State of Ceará, Brazil. The pollen analysis of 21 samples of honeys collected from November to December, 2001, were carried out in the Laboratório de Apicultura, Departmento de Entomologia, Fitopatologia e Zoologia Agrícola, of the Escola Superior de Agricultura €œLuiz de Queiroz€, Universidade de São Paulo, in Piracicaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The identification of the pollen types was made by comparison with the reference slides and the pollen grain descriptions were obtained in the literature. The results indicated 41 pollen types, seven of them considered dominant or accessory as Borreria verticillata, Mimosa verrucosa, Cordia sp., Serjania sp., and the pollen types of Coccoloba, Myrcia and Solanaceae sp1. The analysis of these honeys showed the presence of pollen grains of Serjania sp. (€œcipó-uva€) in all the samples studied.
