Abstract

A study concerning pre-planting techniques on sprouting of mulberry cuttings was carried out in two places. One experiment was installed at União Paulista and the second was installed at Capão Bonito, São Paulo State, southeastern Brazil. The treatments were five mulberry cultivars (FM3/3, FM86, IZ40, IZ13/6, IZ56/4) and four pre-planting techniques (T0-control, T1-immersion in water, T2-cold warehousing-5oC, T3-immersion in NAA 3.5% solution). The experimental design was completely randomized blocks arranged in 5X4 factorial, with three replications and ten cuttings at each experimental unit. After 150 days of planting, the experiment was evaluated and only vigorous sprouting cuttings, were considered. IZ13/6 cultivar presented the smallest percentage of sprouting; the treatments with cold warehousing and immersion in NAA 3.5% solution, had no favorable effect on sprouting of mulberry cuttings; under unfavorable planting conditions the practice of immersion of cuttings base in water, is justifiable the plant setting.
