Abstract

The trial was carried out at Estação Experimental Central, lo Nova Odessa, State of São Paulo, in an area where the Panicum maximum had been planted some years ago. It was carried oot during three years in a Red Yellow Podzolic acid soil, with intermediate level of exchangeable aluminium. The treatments were set in randomized block design with six replications. The results showed that liming did not increase dry matter yield and protein yield, as well as the protein and phosphorus percentage. The increasing levels of lime increased the calcium concentration in the grass. Liming also affected some chemical characteristics of the soil, increasing its exchangeable calcium and magnesium and its pH. The exchangeable aluminium was decreased by liming.
