Abstract

The research was carried out in experimental area of Departamento de Entomologia of E.S.A. €˜Luiz de Queiroz€, Piracicaba-SP, with the objective to checking if the sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) production can be increased in our climatic conditions, by the pollinator action. It was run a trial comparing three sunflower cultivars: Anhandy, Contisol (hybrid) and Uruguai, under three flower isolation methods: bagging the flowers with gauze, bagging the flowers with paraffin paper and covering the plants (13 to 15) with cages with net sides. The freely visited flowers were considered as control. The trial employed a completely randomized split-plot design with ten replications. The cultivars were the plots and the isolation methods the subplots. The production data were submited to a variance analysis and the averages compared by Tukey test (P < 0.05). We can conclude by the obtained data which the sunflower production depends on insect visits and the hybrid cultivar is less affected by the bee action.
