Abstract

The trial was conducted at Centro Estadual de Pesquisa Aplicada em Sericicultura, Gália/SP, from March, 1989 to August, 1990. Ten mulberry clones were used including two common varieties and eight hybrids as follow: calabresa, miura, IZ 56/4, IZ 13/6, IZ 19/13, IZ 57/2, IZ 15/7, IZ 3/2, IZ 30 and IZ 40, with the aim of evaluating the sprouting rates in different times of the year and among clones, in order to define the best planting time. It was concluded that the best planting times were winter and/or autumn, with the clones miura, calabresa and IZ 15/7 presenting the best sprouting rates followed by the clones IZ 30 and IZ 3/2.
