Abstract

In this paper it was studied some influences on birth and weaning weight and on mortality from birth to weaning in Polwarth and Corriedale lambs. Birth and weaning weight were affected by breed, sex, year of birth and age of the ewes. The weight at birth or at weaning was smaller in lambs born of younger or older ewes (with seven years or older). The mortality rate from birth to weaning was significantly influenced by seasonal effects and age of the mothers. This last effect is probably caused by the smaller birth weight of lambs born of younger or older ewes.
