Sugar cane bagasse in feedlot

Abstract

Twenty four years old steers with 3/4 European and 1/4 zebu blood were allocated to three different rations, in order to test the sugar cane bagasse as main source of a diet in a feeding trial, The steers weighted 298kg in average and the trial was 112 days long. The three diets had the following composition: A: sugar cane bagasse, dried grnd 50%,corn grain grnd 24% and cotton seeds solv extd grnd (4-11-744) 26%; B: Sugar cane bagasse, dried grnd 30%, filter cake 20%, corri grain 28%and cotton seeds solv extd grnd 22%; C: Sugarcane bagasse, dried grnd 30%, Hyparrhenia rufa, aerial part, dehy 20%, corn grain grnd 27% and cotton seeds solv extd grnd 23%. After 112 days the steer had the following averaqe daily gain per treatment A: 0.664, B: 0.781 and, C: 0.828kg. There were not statistical differences among treatments. The average daily comsumption of dry matter was respectiveIy; A: 7.898, B: 9.992 and C: 10.091 kg.
