The nutritive value of coffee grounds residue as feedstuff for ruminants

Abstract

Five rations were coinposed to measure the nutritive value of coffee grounds residue. C.G.R. was combined with pangola grass, hay and sugar cane molasses in the following proportion (hay::mol:CGR): 100:0:0(A); 90:10:0(B); 80:10:10 (C); 70: 10:20 (D) and 60:10:30 (E). Rations were given «ad libitum» to 4 Corriedale rams with 4 years of age. After they reach the maximum intake the period of collection was held for 7 days. The feces were collected in canvas bags. TDN values from A to E were respectively: 50.4, 53.9, 49.9, 59.8 and 72.3. Dry matter daily consumption in g/ kg were from A to E: 27.6, 32.5, 24.6, 27.5 and 17.1. We can conclude that the CGR can be used as an ingredient of rations in the conditions of this experiment up to 20% of the total. Applications of pesticide in the coffee plantations can limit its utilization for milking cows cine to the possible recyrculation of those products throngh the milk.
