Abstract

The cool season overseeding in a Tifton 85 area, associate to irrigation, is a very important alternative to increase forage production, nutritive value and distribution during the winter. The winter species introduction in a tropical forage area can increase forage production and quality, reducing the supplement utilization by the animals during the dry season. The overseeding technique resulted in an uniform forage distribution, with in the main objective of the farmers. The utilization of the several annual species has an objective to combine the maximum forage production at different time of the year, according to the species potential, resulting in better available forage quality. It was observed weed incidence reduction on the tropical forage areas, overseeding with annual winter forage and faster regrowth during the spring, due to the forage management, irrigation, and fertilizing application during the winter.
