Abstract

It was tested in a sandy soil (Quartzipsamment) of “cerrado” vegetation the effects of lime and mineral nutrients on Stylosanthes capitata growing. The fertilization treatments (subtractive assay), at three rates of lime: 0.73, 1.54 and 4.90t ha-1, corresponding to raise the base soil saturation from 40%, 60% and pH elevation to 6.5. It were arranged in a complete randomized block design with four replications. Stylo plants were cut close to the soil surface 84 days after emergency. Phosphorus was the most limited nutrient. Potassium had positive effects upon the forage legume. Lime brought positive effects in dry matter yields. The highest dry matter yields were obtained with the application of 1.28 t ha-1 of lime wich rise the base saturation of soil to 53%. The single applications of sulphur or micronutrients do not change significantly the dry matter yield, nitrogen accumulation and nodulation. Low levels of phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur, born, copper and zinc were observed, when those nutrients were not added as fertilizers. The results show that stylo has been negatively affected to the pH elevation to 6.5 (rate of 4,90t ha-1 of lime).
