Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate a possible association between the polymorphism for muzzle colour and feedlot weight gain of Canchim bulls. The experiment was held at two different locations. at the São Jorge Farm, 51 Canchim bulls averaging 20 months of age and 327 kg of body weight at the start of the period were classified in three different groups for muzzle colour (dark, pink and intermediate pigmentation). The same procedure was used for 105 animals in evaluation at the performance test at the Estação Experimental de Zootecnia de Sertãozinho (starting test with 210 days and finishing at 378 days). The results showed no significant association between groups of muzzle colour and daily gain on feedlot.
