Abstract

This essav was carried out in Instituto de Zootecnia in Nova Odessa-SP, Brazil, in order to evaluate hay production of Panicum maximum IZ-1 cut at four diffcrent ages (51, 65, 79 and 93 days of vegetation). Experimental design was in randomized blocks with 5 replicates. We evaluated dry matter yield/ha, crude protein content, NDF, percentage of lcaves and stems and water loss curve. Dry matter produetions ranged from 3,484 to 7,716 kg/ha; CP ranged from 8.83 to 4.65; NDF from 83.7 to 87.1; leaf percentage ranged from 58.8 to 45.5 and stem percentage ranged from 41.2 and 54.2. Water loss suffered a linear dccrcase as exposure period increased.
