Abstract

Three Panicum maximum varieties, colonião IZ-1, tobiatàand K-187 B, were fertilized with two nitrogen levels (80 and 240 kg of N.ha-1.year = 1) in order to measure their dry matter and protein productions. Cutting frequencies were every 42 days in summer and 56 days in winter. The experiment was conducted at the Instituto de Zootecnia in Nova Odessa, state of São Paulo, in a 3 x 2 factorial design with three replications. The highest nitrogen fertilization was responsible for a significant effect on yearly dry matter and protein production (P < 0.01). The same was true considering either summer or winter productions. It was observed a greater participation of the winter dry matter yield with the lowest nitrogen fertilization than with the highest level.
