Abstract

In this study it was measured the rectal temperature, respiration rate, and hematological values in three breeds of sheep at two different climate conditions (Cwa and Cfa). The observations were taken at two times (8:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.), after a resting period of the animals, during summer and winter periods of 1986 and 1987. All the breeds studied had normal values of rectal temperature, respiration rate and hematological values, showing adequate acclimation capacity at the two regions. Santa Inês, a woolness sheep breed showed lower variations of rectal temperature and respiration rate than Polwarth and Corriedale breeds. The hematological values did not change in any of the situations studied.
