Abstract

It was carried out in 1989, at Experimental Station of the Instituto de Zootecnia, in Pindamonhangaba, SP, an experiment to evaluate the maturation stages of milky, dough and hard grain on the dry matter and crude protein production of sorghum AG 2002 and BR 506 (Sorghumbicolor (L.) Mench.). The experimental design was a randomized complete block one with six replications. The local soil was classified as a Red Yellow Latosol - sandy fase. The sowing was made with density of 12-15 seeds/m and distance of 0.70m between rows. Fertilizer was applied at the time of planting, using 400kg/ha of 04-14-08 formula. The second dressing was made 45 days after planting using 40kg N and 30kg K2O/ha as sulphate of ammonia and potassium chloride; at the 60th days after planting it was applied 40kg N/ha as sulphate of ammonia. Dry matter contents suggests that for silage production, sorghum AG 2002 and BR 506 must be harvested in the stages of dough and hard grain. The panicle in such stages of maturation increased quickly dry matter contents in plants and acumulated more than 60% of the crude protein produced. Sorghum AG 2002 and BR 506 presented similar response in dry matter production, in average 14t/ha and crude protein, 600kg/lia. Interaction between sorghums and maturation stages were not found.
