Abstract

In view of the absence of information about the Africanized honey bees in many aspects, specially about the best diameter of wax cell-cups used in artificial queen rearing, and verifying that the literature reports make reference only to other honeybee races, the present work was carried out with the objective of evaluating the influence of wax cell-cups diameter in the larvae acceptance and viability, as well in queen weight, in order to determine the best diameter for queen rearing in our conditions. We can conclude that the most indicated wax cell-cup diameter for the Africanized honeybee queen rearing is 9min, with average acceptance of 78.5%, average viability of 63.3% and average queen weight of 204. 54mg.
