Abstract

Trio study used data concerning Duroc swine from Estação Experimental de Zootecnia - Sertãozinho, SP. Trio records represent the period 1957-1 970 and amount 526 litters and 2944 pigs at weaning (56 days). Mean litter size was 5.59 pigs, with an average individual weight of 11.13kg and an average litter weighs of 62.29kg. It was a significant effect of year and period (fall Winter and spring Summer) on trio piglets weight but no significant influence on trio litter size and litter weight. Trio effect of dam€™s age was significant for all variables, and showed up essentially as a distinct improvement from the first to the later age-classes, followed by a estabilization at the age of 34-39 months and than a decline in trio later ones; the action of this effect accounts for 2.40 to 7.64% of total variance.
