Abstract

A competitjon trial for dry matter and crude protein production with 6 legumes and 6 tropical grasses was conducted at Anhumas (Anhembi District) town, São Paulo State, Brazil. The forage plants were submited to two conditions: fertilized and not fertilized. It was determined also the crude protein and crude fiber. Paspalum guenoarum Arech and Galactia striata (Jacq.) Urb. gave the higher dry matter and crude protein yields. Panicum maximum Jacq. cv. Gatton panic and Centrosema pubescens Benth. had the higher crude protein contents. Considering dry matter production:Gatton panic was the most responsive to fertilization in the first year and green panic in the second year and gatton panic in the first and the second year; and crude protein production gatton panic was the most responsive to fertilization in the first and second year; and Centrosema pubescens Benth, was the most responsive to fertilization in the first year, and Macroptilium atropurpureum cv. Siratro in the second year, when it was analised dry matter and crude protein production, respectively.
