Abstract

In a greenhouse experiment the effects of the addition of sources of phosphates in the soil and as seed pelleting of perennial soybean (Glycine wightil Verde.) ver. tinaroo were studied. A factorial involving triple superphosphate and gypsum as pellet, was also conducted. It was emploied a Podzolized Soil on calcareous sandstone, poor in exchangeable phosphorus. The sources of phosphate were; single superphosphate, triple superphophat, sodium dihydrogn orthnphosphate and Olinda rock phosphate. In the pellet form, it was applied 80 grams of P2 O5 or 48 grams of S per kilogram of seeds, whereas in the soil it was added 100 kilograms of P2O5 per hectare. Significant increases in the dry matter production, in nodulation and in the total amount of nitrogen in the legume were obtained when single or triple superphosphate or sodium dihydrogen orthophosphate was used. The application of phosphates in the soil or int the soil plus on the seeds was more efficient than the use in a pellet form. Gypsum applied as pellet did not improve the inicial development of perennial soybean. It was observed that the addition of the phosphates as pellet did not fulfill the requirements of phosphorus for the normal establishment of the legume in this soil.
