Abstract

Biological and productive aspects of eri silkworm (Philosamia ricini) were evaluated, when the caterpillars in the final of the larval phase, were fed with castor leaves (Ricinus communis), cassava leaves (Manihot utilissima) and papaya leaves (Carica papaya). The study was developed at Unidade de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento de Gália, SP, APTA, SAA, in august of 2005. It was used a completely randomized design, with six replications for treatment. Caterpillars fed with castor leaves presented in general, the best biological performance and a productive performance superior to caterpillars fed with cassava leaves. The utilization of papaya leaves was not adequate for the rearing of eri silkworm.
