Abstract

Data of milk yield per day of calving interval (PLIEP) from 558 records belonging to 391 Holstein cows, daughters of 61 bulls and monitored by the dairy information system €œDAISY€ between 1989 to 1994 were analyzed. The herds were located in the São Paulo and Minas Gerais States. Analysis were carried out for a mixed model with year-level of production or herd and age of cows in classes. The results expressed as means and standard deviation were: 13.7 kg for milk yield per day of calving interval and 5.3 kg. The estimates of heritabilities to PLIEP was 0.38 and 0.29, when was considered level of production and herd respectively. The results suggest that some more studies are required in order to confirm or not if this trait should be considered in the selection programs.
