Abstract

The present work was conducted at Centro Estadual de Pesquisa Aplicada em Sericicultura, Gáli-a, State of São Paulo, in a 33-day period (harvest 95/96). Two essays were carried out. The first started with the installation at field and the second one, 8 days later. The objective was to evaluate some preventive methods, utilized to avoid the mulberry contamination by insecticide application for ant control. It was used a completely randoinized design, in a 3 x 2 factorial scheme (three distances from ant-hill x two plant conditions). The distances were 0, 1,50 and 2.00 meters and the plant conditions were, protected and unprotected. The insecticide (Chlorpyriphos), in the concentration used (729g/l) did not affect the characters cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight of silkworm fed ou the experiment mulberry leaves, in lhe two assays. However, as to the number of caterpillars that formed cocoons, it was observed problems of poisoning in lhe first assay, when the caterpillars were fed with leaves of unprotected plants localized at 1.50 m from the ant-hill.
