Abstract

The experiment was carried out at Estação Experimental de Zootecnia de Pindamonhangaba, State of São Paulo, Brazil, from November, 1983 to December, 1984. Fifteen steers Mantiqueira type, 16 months old, placed in €˜braquiaria€ green pasture, were used in randomized blocks, with 3 treatments and 5 replications, being sub plots the samples obtained in 3 periods. The treatments were: A = control, no anthelmintic application; B = traditional, anthelmintic applications in July and November and C = strategic, 3 consecutive anthelmintic applications since November, with 21 days intervals. The period were: 1st) November/1983 to May/1984; 2nd)June/1984 to September/1984 and 3rd) October/1984 to December/1984. It was used the anthelmintic Levamisole subcutaneous via, at the dosage of 1 ml/20 kg liveweight. Statistical differences (P <0.05) were obtained between treatments and periods. The interaction anthehnintic applications and periods was significative for EPGF counting. The strategic anthelmintic applications, adequate food supply and increased immunity influenced markedly parasitism reduction. It was studied an index to measure pasture infestation.
