Early inoculation of digestive flora on development of young calves

Forty calves (males and females) Santa Gertrudis crossed were employed an experiment to study the effect of a inoculant of digestive flora on the ponderable development. The treatments began with animals of nearly one month of age and were attended till the seven months, jointly with his mothers. The same re divided in four groups of ten (five males and five females) which received the following treatments: A €” pasture plus mineral supplementation (M. S.) €œad libitum€, with weaning to the seven months; B €” pasture plus M.S. €œad libitum€, with weaning to the five months; C €” pasture plus 15 g of inoculant/head/each 3 days, plus M.S. €œad libitum€ with weaning to the five months; D- pasture plus 5 g of inoculant/head/day, plus M.S. €œad libitum€, with weaning to the five months. The following parameters were studied: GPV5 €” average daily weight gain since the start in the experiment till the five months of age; GPV7 €” average daily weight gain since the start till the seven months and GPV5 -7 average daily weight gain of the five to the seven months. The experiment was carried out of 28/9/87 to 04/7/88, dates of the start first of animals in the treatments and of the last weighing of seven months, respectively. The experimental design was completly randomized, with four treatments and ten replications. The results got for each parameter studied were the following: GPV5 €” A = 0,85, B = 0,85, C = 0,90 and D = 0,76; GPV7 €” A = 0,85, B = 0,69, C = 0,72 and D = 0,63; GPV5 -7€” A = 0,82, B = 0,33, C = 0,30 and D = 0,36 kg/head/day.Downloads
