Abstract

1663 reproductive registers, collected between 1964 and 1978 were studied, to evaluate the effect of some environmental factors on calving interval of Holstein-Friesian cows and to estimate the heritability and repeatability of this trait. The overall mean, standard deviation and variation coefficient were respectively 15.5 ± 54.7 days and 13.2%. Through the analysis of variance it was verified that year and month of calving significantly affected the calving interval. The heritability and repeatability stimates were respectively 0.05 ± 0.04 and 0.03 ± 0.02.
