Malt rootlets in diets for growing and finishing swine

Abstract

The replacement of com and soybean meal of isoproteic ration (16.0% of crude protein (CP) in the growing phase and 13.0% of CP in the finishing phase) and isoenergetic (3340 kcal of digestible energy/kg by malt rootlets was studied. In this experiment it was utilized 120 Landrace x Large White crossbred piglets. The initial weight body was 21.3 and final live weight of 95.0 kg. The experimental design was randomized blocks with five treatments and four repetitions. The experimental unit was represented by six animals. Two digestibility experiments were conducted, being one with the growing phase and another in the finishing phase. In both experiments there were 20 pigs. Based on average daily gain weight, feed: gain and nitrogen balance were conclued that malt rootlets can be inclued at level of 20% in the swine ration as long as it contains 3,340 kcal of digestibible energy.
