Abstract

Thirty two Landrace breeders, were utilized to study the effects of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) on the feeding of growing and finishing swines. The experiment consisted of the following treatments: a) control ration, based in the corn and soybean meal; b), c) and d) rations with 7.0, 14.0 and 21.0% of the water hyacinth dried respectively. It is deduced that hight levels of water hyacinth, decrease swine performance, however its use on animal feeding up to 7.0% will may be economically viable.
