Abstract

The present experiment was carried out from October, 1985 to January, 1988 at Instituto de Zootecnia, Nova Odessa, SP, Brazil. The main purpose of it was to compare 35 grasses 7 legumes mixtures under 2 simulated managements (high and low). A complete randomized block design with 2 replications in crossed lines mixing all the grasses with all the legumes was used. The results showed that Pennisetum purpureum Schum cv. Guaçu gave higher D.M. production under grazing (P < 0.05) followed by Kazungula setaria and by P. purpureum Schum cv. Roxo. Among the legumes, perenial soybean was superior (P < 0.01) followed by Macrotyloma axiliare Verdc. cv. Guatá andCalopogonium mucunoides Desv. Taking into consideration the D.M. kept under grazing. soil converture and percentage of dry weight of the legume inside the mixture, better choices for low management were: roxo x soybean; B. brizantha Stapf. cv. Marandu x Callopogonium; Marandu x Guata and Heteropogon sp x soybean. Better mixtures suited for high management were: roxo and kazungula setaria with soybean and Guaçu x soybean.
