Abstract

This work was done in the Farm €œGuimarães Rosa€, Felixlândia, State of Minas Gerais. The main objective was to study the effect of stocking rates over animal performance in pastures of Brachiaria decumbens Stapf. The pastures were allocated in a completely randomized design; with (different number of replications for each treatment. The animals used were crossbred zebu steers_ It vas used 3, 4 or 5 animals per pasture according to the stocking rate of each pasture. The stocking rates used in the continuous grazing were: 1.0; 1.6; 2.4 and 3.5 heads/ha and involved 36 seers. Increasing stocking rates increased liveweight gains per hectare, without changing liveweight gains per animal. The liveweight gains higher in the summer than in the winter.
