The physiological immaturity of piglet€™s digestive tract at weaning represents a special challenge to nutritionists. This study evaluates diets with pre-cooked corn and soybean meal with or without milk products and two protein levels for piglets weaned at 19 days of age. Eighty 19 days old weaned pigs with 5.56 ± 0.51 kg, were allotted in a randomised block design, in factorial scheme with five replications. The treatments were two diet combinations (with or without milk products) and two levels of protein (15 and 18%) provided in the nursery phases (initial-1 and initial-2). It was determined live weight gain, feed intake and feed: gain ratio. There was interaction (P<0.05) characterised by worse weight gain in initial-2 and total phase for those piglets that received diet without milk products with 15% crude protein. Separately, the best response on performance occurred for diet provided with milk products and with 18% crude protein, in the studied phases from 19 to 54 days of age. The residual effects of the treatments provided in nursery period were characterised on final of growing and finishing phases. Pigs that received diet with milk products and 18% of CP in the nursery period, reached the slaughtering weight 6 and 4 days before those whose diet was without milk products and 15% of protein, respectively. For concentrations used, the inclusion of milk products and 18% of crude protein was better indicated in pre-cooked and soybean meal diet bases to piglets weaned at 19 days of age.
