Abstract

The experiment was carried out under greenhouse at UNESP, Jaboticabal,SP and ameid to evaluate the nutrient supplying power of an Alfisol for Tifton 85 grass and to establish the relationship of nutrient concentration in plant tops with deficiency symptoms. The treatments evaluated were: control (without lime and fertilization), complete (lime with CaCO3 and fertilization with N, P, K, Mg, S, B, Cu, Mo, and Zn) and complete with of a nutrient per time (complete -N, -P, -K, -Ca, -Mg, -S, -Cu, and -Zn). The experiment was done in completely randomized design, with three replicates. The application of treatment resulted in appearance of N, K, Mg and S deficiency symptoms and leaf concentrations of N, P, K, Mg and S under the appropriate range for Tifton grass. The treatments -Cu, -Zn, -Ca and -Mg did not affect the dry mass production, while the treatments –N, –K, -P and –S provided reduction of 56; 25; 31 and 31%, respectively. It was concluded that the Alfisol did not supply the demand of Tifton 85 grass in N, P, K, Mg and S. The low nutrient concentrations of the plants were related with the respective deficiency symptoms of N, K, Mg and S.
