Abstract

This study evaluated the performance of 24 crossbred animals ½ Purunã/Canchim, fed with different levels of energy in their diets. The animals had been confined for 84 days, with initial average age of 18 months. The animal initial average weight was of 272kg for the light group and of 373kg for the heavy group. The treatments were the energy level, as: T1= 70.5%TND; T2 = 67.0%TND and T3= 64.0%TND, with eight replications, for four light animals and for four heavy animals. The fed were mainly corn silage, soybean meal; corn; urea; dicalcium phosphate and a mineral nucleus. During the experimental period they had been evaluated by the average of gain weight, dry matter intake and the feed conversion. The analyses demonstrate that dry matter intake and concentrate increased linearly (P<0.05) with the increase of energy in the higher bigger intake for the lower level of energy of the diet (64.0%TND). The feed conversion was efficient (P<0.05) for the highest level of energy of the diet (70.5%TND). It had effect of the treatments on the daily gain weight , final and total weight average (P<0.05).
