Renewal of degraded pastures with Hyperrhenia rufa, Stylosanthes guianensis and nitrogen fertilizer

Abstract

The experiment was carried out in March/2000 to May/2001, to evaluate the renewal of a degraded pasture of molassesgrass (Melinis minutiflora Beauv.), introducting jaraguagrass (Hyparrhenia rufa), utilizing four N doses (0, 50, 100 and 150kg ha-1) and a consortium with S. guianensis cv. mineirão, in a complete randomized blocks, with three repetitions. The evaluations were realized in dry season with one sampling, and wet season with three samplings. It was observed that nitrogen fertilizer promoted no effect in the dry matter production (DM) neither in crude protein (CP) of jaraguagrass, in both seasons. The neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content was incremented by N doses only in dry season. However, acid detergent fiber (ADF) content of jaraguagrass was not influenced by N doses in both seasons. In relationship minerals analyses, it was observed that increasing N doses, P, Ca and Mg contents decreased in dry season, same result of P content in wet season. It was also observed that K contents were not affected with N doses in both seasons, as well as Mg content in wet season. There was not significant difference between DM production in jaraguagrass and Stylosanthes consortium and DM production of treatments with N doses in both seasons. The consortia presented larger CP content in relation to the jaraguagrass with N doses.
